Solar Tube Shape & Spacing
The cylindrical shape of the evacuated tubes ensures they are always facing the sun, unlike flat plate collectors that only face the sun at midday. Evacuated tubes are also spaced close together to minimize any light losses between the tubes.
These two factors result in stable heat output from mid morning through to mid afternoon. Flat plate collectors provide peak output only at midday, when the sun is directly overhead.
